Excellent feeder. Sturdy, good design, easy to take apart and clean (very important!) The rain guard works well. The seed tray prevents food and poo landing on our shrub below, as well as the wider patio. That helps keep wood pigeons and squirrels away. (Incidentally, the squirrels took one look at the feeder and didn't even try.) BUT the parakeets still get their little green heads stuck into the feeding ports. So I covered the squares in the metal cage facing the ports (2 squares per port) with bubblepack and strong tape. This won't hurt any birds, but unfortunately it does limit our view of the smaller birds somewhat, since the tape is not transparent. The parakeets try to pull it off but have failed. They have spent quite a lot of time crawling all over the feeder trying to get in, but we're hopeful that, since they're fairly smart, they will soon realise it's a waste of time and give up visiting. As long as I keep the seed tray cleared out, they shouldn't be hanging around. Also good to know - nuthatches can easily squeeze into the feeding space, along with tits, robins and the occasional daring dunnock. One other thing - I checked the manufacturer's own website, and buying the feeder, rain guard and metal surround directly from them was more expensive than at A Little Bird Co. Also, they'd sold out of the metal surrounds. So please help support Clare's small business and buy from her. You'll also get a free packet of her own birdseed mix.

Although I was reluctant to spend over £80 on a bird feeder I was frustrated at the amount of food eaten by squirrels and sometimes starlings.
The feeder is large and very robust , the blue tits love it , the robins are still a bit wary but gaining in confidence to use it . The squirrels spent a disproportionate amount of time in the first week trying to find a way in. They can just, with difficulty, reach the tray to eat the discarded food and although still trying, their visits are greatly reduced .
I can fully justify the purchase now.
