Our British bird feeding charities, the RSPB and BTO, recommend feeding the birds in your garden all year round. Our bird food subscription ensures you are always ready to provide, with a garden the birds can rely on. With premium bird food delivered straight to your door, you can enjoy hassle free bird feeding, all year round.

The Nesting Blend
Early spring is both a challenging and exciting time for your garden birds. After a tough winter when food was scarce and natural nesting sites hard to come by, birds kick off their busy breeding season with every bit of energy they can muster. The weather might still throw a few curveballs, but there’s loads of buzz as birds dive into nest building, courtship, and raising their little ones. Our Nesting Blend is here to give them a hand - along with our standard base mix of sunflower hearts, chopped peanuts and suet, we’ve added oyster shell grit to help support proper eggshell formation with the right calcium boost. It’s a smart way to fill the nutrition gap left by winter and keep our feathered friends in top form. Keep an eye on your garden and enjoy the lively nest-building action!

The New Families Blend
In late spring and early summer, as our garden birds tend to their fledglings, they're facing a bit of a challenge. With insecticide use and a decline in wildflowers, insects aren’t as plentiful as they once were, which means our garden songbirds might miss that natural protein boost. We don't add dried mealworms to our blend at this time of year because they can lead to dehydration in young birds, but we do use a nurturing mix of sunflower hearts, chopped peanuts, suet pellets, pinhead oats and oil‐rich hemp seed. It’s designed to help support those busy adult birds with an extra dose of energy and nutrients, so they can help their chicks to grow up strong and healthy. Enjoy watching the bustle of feeding time in your garden!

The Fledglings and Feathers Blend
Late summer used to be a season of natural abundance, with an endless supply of wild goodies for birds. But these days, with shifts in our landscape, those extra treats aren’t as common. In late summer, as young birds venture out of the nest and adults shed old feathers, they’re a bit more vulnerable and in need of extra support. Our mix is crafted to step in where nature falls a little short. Featuring sunflower hearts, chopped peanuts, oil-rich hemp seed for glossy feather regeneration and suet pellets for that extra energy boost, it helps keep our garden songbirds strong as they adapt to these changes. It’s a helping hand to ensure those new chicks grow up spirited and resilient, even when the natural bounty isn’t quite as abundant as it once was.

The Fall Into Winter Blend
When the chill hits and food is hard to come by, our winter blend steps in to lend a helping hand. Packed with sunflower hearts, suet pellets, chopped peanuts, dried mealworms, hemp seed and pinhead oats, it’s a hearty mix designed to keep your feathered friends well-fed and buzzing with energy throughout the frosty days. Make yours a garden to rely on when the cold weather hits, and enjoy watching the birds benefit from a supply of premium food when they need it most.

Bird feeding solutions for your garden
With the right food and feeder, your garden becomes a safe, welcoming haven for wildlife. Help your garden birds thrive every day.

Hi, I'm Clare!
I started feeding the birds in our garden with the hopes of seeing blue tits and robins. But when I was on maternity leave with my first daughter, I realised my garden was full of pigeons so well-fed they could barely waddle! Determined to attract more variety, I experimented with different foods. When a goldfinch arrived, I knew I was onto something. Friends and family loved my blends too, so in 2022, I launched A Little Bird Co. I wanted to offer a better bird food - no cheap fillers, no plastic - just nutritious seeds birds love. Now, my food helps songbirds thrive across the UK, and every order still makes me smile!
The seasonal bird food brand
We're a little company, supporting little birds. Find out more about what sets us apart.
-
Seasonal
Birds have different dietary needs throughout the year, from nesting to moulting and surviving colder months. To support these changes, we’ve created seasonal blends – order a Seasonal Bird Food bag, and we’ll adjust the blend to match the season, making it easy to do something great for the birds.
-
Sustainable
Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. We don't farm, process, and transport cheap filler ingredients that birds simply kick to the floor. Instead, we focus on premium ingredients they love. Our packaging is compostable, and our bird feeders and nest boxes are tested for durability and longevity.
-
Songbird
We design our food and select our range of feeders with little birds in mind. Every ingredient in our blends is chosen because small birds love it, simplifying your bird feeding routine. Our feeders provide safe access to food while helping to keep out larger, more dominant species. Look out for robins, blue tits, wrens, finches and more visiting your garden for our food.
-
Support
With birds in your garden, you’re never alone - they’re the friends who always visit. Feeding them supports wildlife conservation while bringing joy and calm. Whether spotting a new species or simply watching their daily routines, just ten minutes a day strengthens your connection with nature and boosts your wellbeing.

Have been using the seasonal subscription for a few years now and it's fab. Our garden birds love it and it attracts birds I'd not seen before here (brambling, siskins, jays). Well worth the money!

"They love it!"
I thought it would take a while for the birds to find the feeder, but it only took a day. Since then there are up to about 6 or 8 sparrows, tits and robins that are a joy to watch flying in and out, squabbling and enjoying the food!

Who’s eating the bird food in your garden?
We want to support all wildlife in our gardens - big, small, furry or feathered - even if it sometimes means sharing with a few bolder visitors. That said, when pigeons, crows, squirrels or starlings are eating your entire supply of food, it can leave the little birds struggling for a bite to eat, which can feel frustrating.
If you would like to reserve a supply of food for the blue tits, robins, finches and blackbirds, you can try one of our bird feeding solutions. We stock the top selling Squirrel Buster bird feeder, as well as a defender to stop crows and pigeons from eating the bird food, and even a starling proof bird feeder. Explore the full range of solutions on our online store.

How can I stop squirrels from eating all the bird food?
Anyone who’s had a squirrel visit knows just how ingenious they can be. They’re strong, clever and persistent – if they can’t eat from your feeder, they might just bring the whole thing down to chew it to pieces. We’ve carefully tested a range of feeders that tackle the squirrel problem. Whether you choose a chew-proof, weight-activated Squirrel Buster or a solid, sturdy guardian cage, you can ensure the little birds can eat in peace.
How can I stop crows, jackdaws and magpies from eating all the bird food?
Corvids - crows, jackdaws and magpies - are clever and strong, and they can easily intimidate the smaller birds into forfeiting their meal. Our Simon King Medusa Feeder Defender is designed to keep these larger birds at bay with chains that create discomfort against their flight feathers. Alternatively, our weight-activated feeder senses when a hefty visitor lands and temporarily restricts access, giving the little birds a fairer share of the food.
How can I stop parakeets from eating all the bird food?
Once seen only in tropical climates, parakeets are now a common sight in London and steadily spreading further afield. These vibrant birds are interesting to watch, and they’re also assertive feeders. They can intimidate smaller birds and are brave enough to sit at the feeder for hours to get their fill. Our Simon King Medusa Bird Feeder Defender helps keep them in check by offering a controlled access point. With its design, parakeets can only take modest nibbles at a time, ensuring that the more delicate species aren’t left hungry. The Starling Resistant Bird Feeder also offers a parakeet proof bird feeder - although they can squeeze their heads through the lowest aperture to peck seeds from the tray, they can’t get enough for a worthwhile meal, which leaves them heading elsewhere to eat.
How can I stop starlings from eating all the bird food?
Starlings are an endangered species and need our support, but they can empty a feeder in minutes if left unchecked. Our Starling Resistant Feeder Set is tailored to this challenge. Although starlings can squeeze their head into the bottom aperture to grab any dropped seeds, they soon find the space too limiting for a proper feed. This clever design helps keep starlings at bay, ensuring that smaller, more vulnerable birds aren’t left hungry.
How can I stop pigeons from eating all the bird food?
Pigeons can be persistent and may dominate your feeder if given the chance. To deter these determined visitors, you can choose from our range of solutions—be it the versatile Simon King Medusa Defender, the targeted Starling Resistant Feeder Set, or even the robust Squirrel Buster. Each option is designed to keep pigeons at bay, ensuring that your garden remains a welcoming haven for the little birds.
How can I stop rats from eating all the bird food?
Finding rats under your feeder can be frustrating – not many people are keen to encourage them! The key is to prevent food from falling to the ground. A caged feeder with a tray catches stray seeds, stopping rats from being attracted in the first place. Alternatively, a weight-activated feeder ensures only the birds you want to feed can access the food, keeping your garden rodent-free.

No grow bird food
Grow the flowers you love, not weeds
At A Little Bird Co., we discovered that removing uneaten ingredients – like wheat, millet, dari, maize, and even grass-seed – does more than give birds exactly what they love; it also leaves you with a tidier, weed-free garden. We used to watch a wheat field grow through the cracks in our patio beneath the feeder, but by using dehusked seeds and focusing only on the foods that birds truly eat, our blend minimises waste and keeps unwanted seedlings at bay, giving your flowers the space they need to thrive. We’re committed to sustainability, which means we refuse to support the farming, processing, and transport of seeds that birds simply won’t eat. This approach not only benefits the little birds but also makes our food a more sustainable choice overall.

The sustainable bird food brand
There is an environmental and financial cost to farming, processing, packaging and transporting the cheaper "filler" seeds and grains like wheat, dari, millet and maize that often bulk out cheaper commercial bird food (and end up germinating beneath your bird feeder). We prioritise both nutrition and sustainability by using only the premium foods that we know the blue tits, finches and robins love, and packaging it in compostable bags and boxes.
