What's Included?

Simon King Medusa Feeder Defender – a crow and pigeon resistant Bird Feeder Defender.
Please note: The feeder itself is not included. For optimal performance, use a cylindrical feeder that does not hang beneath or protrude toward the chains, as this could create a grab point for larger birds.

How to Use

Hang the Medusa from a sturdy branch, bracket, or feeding pole. Then, attach your preferred feeder to the hook located beneath the top of the Medusa.

Dimensions

Height: 68cm (including chains) Diameter: 22cm

We recommend that bird feeders be cleaned every fortnight to prevent the spread of disease. You can find full instructions on how to clean your feeders in our blog.

Great quality product.

I have been searching for something to protect my current bird feeders from the recently arrived larger birds. Other options were either too bulky or too restrictive but the Medusa was ideal, I even got a second one… plus I was supporting our smaller local businesses which we all must do! Win! Win!

Thank you so much for the lovely review! I'm really grateful for your kind words, and that you chose to support a small local business (and write such a positive review after having done so). Really happy to hear that the little birds are getting a chance to eat!

Extremely disappointed

Having tried two different feeders, both of the required size/height, they were both emptied of bird food by rooks within two to three hours. So a complete waste of money!

You don't get service like this very often!

It is too early for me to say how effective the Medusa Defender for Bird Feeders is. However, the standard of service from Little Bird Co was second to none. Old fashioned customer care, linked to modern products and service systems! Well done and thank you.

What a lovely review - thank you so much for your kind words! I'm really pleased to hear that you're happy with the service!

The little birds are back!

I had a gang of parakeets constantly hanging off my feeder but this ingenious & decorative design is doing the trick so far. The odd parakeet is still accessing the feeder but it’s clearly uncomfortable for them so they don’t stay for long. Which means we get to see the tits, finches and sparrows again just in time for winter. Delivery and communication all top notch plus generous free seed sample.

So happy to hear that you're happy with the Medusa! And absolutely thrilled to hear that you're seeing the tits, finches and sparrows in your garden, that's excellent news. Thank you for the lovely review.

Thoughts from our founder, Clare

When I first saw this Medusa feeder defender, I was so impressed with how simple the design is, and how well it works. It doesn’t dominate the garden, and I love watching the birds line up along the chains to wait their turn.

  • How to set up your Medusa bird feeder defender

This is such a simple design, yet it works so well!

  • Stop crows from eating your bird food

    1. Hang the Medusa

Hang the Medusa from a sturdy branch, bracket, or feeding pole, ideally with 18" of clearance on all sides.

  • 2. Add your feeder

Attach your preferred feeder to the hook located beneath the top of the Medusa. Ensure that the feeder (and its tray, if it has one) doesn't hang beneath or outside of the chains, as this will provide squirrels and bigger birds with a grab point so they can bypass the mechanism.

  • "Wonderful item!"

We've been trying to discourage larger birds from the garden for a while and this has been the perfect solution! We've got so many blue tits and goldfinches visiting the feeder now!

  • "Five stars"

Anti crow feeder has been wonderful. I have robins and lots of small birds back that had deserted our garden. A very big thank you.

Which feeder can I use inside the Medusa?

For the Medusa to work as intended, you should use a cylindrical feeder with a narrow tray/no tray. Wider trays can create a grab point that defeats the defender’s purpose. Using a cylindrical feeder ensures that the Medusa’s protective features remain effective, so follow our recommendation for the best results. This defender works well with the Squirrel Buster Bird Feeder or Stainless Steel Bird Feeder

How quickly will I receive my Medusa Bird Feeder Defender?

We post all orders within 1-2 working days (Monday - Friday during working hours). Our standard shipping takes 2-3 days to arrive. We also offer express shipping which should reach you more quickly.

Will the Simon King Medusa Feeder Defender stop squirrels?

No, the Medusa Feeder Defender is not designed to stop squirrels. Squirrels are agile climbers and can easily scale down into the feeder. If squirrels are a concern in your garden, additional squirrel-proof measures might be necessary to keep them at bay.

Will the Simon King Medusa Feeder Defender stop starlings?

It won’t protect the feed from starlings (who are endangered). Starlings are small enough that the feeder’s design doesn’t interfere with their flight feathers, allowing them to access food easily. While the Medusa is effective against larger birds, starlings can still visit the feeder without significant hindrance. Take a look at our Starling Resistant Feeder Defender Set if starlings are eating all of the food in your garden.

Will the Simon King Medusa Feeder Defender stop parakeets?

To date, yes. Parakeets are larger and the feeder guardian's design interferes with their flight feathers, keeping them at bay. However, I can foresee that in time they will learn to climb down through the top of the feeder, avoiding the chains. If you would like to protect your bird food from parakeets, I recommend a caged feeder. You can take a look at our Starling Resistant Feeder Set.
